The Art and Definition of Motion (Degrees of Freedom DOF)

When picking motion, you can select up to 6 Degrees of Freedom (DOF), configurable how you want them.  2DOF doesn’t have to be the typical Roll and Pitch Combination for instance, it can be Pitch and Surge, or any combination you like.  Here’s how each of the Degrees of Freedom operate:

RollRoll

roll | rōl | noun:

a motion or move in a particular direction by turning over and over on an axis.

PitchPitch

pitch | piCH | noun:

a swaying or oscillation of a ship, aircraft, or vehicle around a horizontal axis perpendicular to the direction of motion.

YawYaw

yaw | yô | noun:

a twisting or oscillation of a moving ship or aircraft around a vertical axis.

SurgeSurge

surge | sərj | noun:

a sudden powerful forward or upward movement, especially by a crowd or by a natural force such as the waves or tide.

SwaySway

sway | swā | noun:

a rhythmical movement from side to side.

HeaveHeave

heave | hēv | noun:

a rise and fall rhythmically or spasmodically

So how do we do it:  The physics are pulled from the physics engine itself from the individual software platforms that we integrate with.  There are no canned effects.

The true suspension dynamics and terrain orientation come directly from the simulation software (PC or Console).  We then pass the data through our proprietary CraftCon motion control software and push that data out to the actuators, creating realistic motion.

This motion is the direct translation of these vehicular dynamics from the game’s physics engine.
